Rose-Painted Calathea Care Guide: Light, Water & Tips

1. Basic Information

Originating in Brazil’s rainforest understory, Rose-Painted Calathea (Calathea roseopicta) sports oval leaves edged in deep green with blush-pink centers. It thrives at 65–80 °F (18–27 °C) with high humidity and a peat-rich, well-draining mix, adapting easily to indoor settings that mimic its tropical origin.

2. Energy Profile & Placement

As a Flare energy plant, its pink-red patterns symbolize passion and transformation—echoing crimson lacquer in Chinese art and pink petals at Hindu festivals. In Feng Shui, red is the Fire element, linked to fame and dynamic energy. Place it in your home’s South sector to boost confidence and social vitality, and keep it near a window for bright, indirect morning light.

3. Care Guidelines

Light & Temperature: Bright, indirect light; 65–80 °F (18–27 °C) indoors. Only move outdoors in filtered shade if you’re in southern Florida or coastal California (USDA zones 10–11). Keep away from direct drafts or strong air blasts.

Watering: When the top 1″ of soil feels dry (≈ weekly), water thoroughly so all the soil is evenly moist. If the fabric outer pot is in place, lift it to let any excess water drain away so the roots never sit in water.

Fertilizing: Every 4–6 weeks in spring/summer, use a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10 NPK) at half strength; pause in cooler months.

Repotting: Refresh soil and pot every two years in spring with a peat-rich, well-draining mix.

Maintenance: Wipe leaves monthly, mist to keep humidity ≥ 60%, and trim any yellow edges.
