Money Tree Care Guide: Light, Water & Tips

Dear Nature Whisper friend, thank you for welcoming this vibrant Money Tree into your home. May its braided trunk and glossy leaves attract abundance, stability, and nurturing energy to your daily life.

Basic Information

Money Tree (Pachira aquatica) is native to Central and South America’s swamps and floodplains. Its signature braided trunk supports a crown of five-lobed, shiny green leaves. It thrives at 65–75 °F (18–24 °C) with moderate humidity and a well-draining, peat-rich mix.

Energy Profile & Placement

As an Earth energy plant, the Money Tree embodies wealth, health, and longevity in Feng Shui. The five leaves on each stem symbolize the “five blessings” (longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue, and peaceful death). Position it in your home’s Southeast sector to amplify prosperity chi or in the East to support family and health harmony. Display it on a low table or plant stand so its braided trunk is visible, and pair with wooden accents to reinforce grounding energy. Once a week, gently wipe a leaf while taking a slow, deep breath to feel grounded.

Care Guidelines

Light & Temperature: Bright, indirect light; allow 2–3 hours of direct morning or late-afternoon sun. Keep indoors at 65–75 °F (18–24 °C); only move outdoors in filtered shade if you’re in USDA zones 10–11. Keep away from cold or hot air blasts.

Watering: When the top 1″ of soil feels dry (≈ weekly), water thoroughly so the mix is evenly moist. If a fabric outer pot is in place, lift it after watering to drain excess and prevent root rot.

Fertilizing: Every 6 weeks in spring and summer, use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10 NPK) at half strength; pause in fall and winter.

Repotting: Every two years (spring), refresh soil and pot up slightly using a loose, well-draining mix.

Maintenance: Wipe leaves monthly, mist to maintain ≥ 50% humidity, and prune any yellowing foliage to preserve its lush form.
