Rubber Tree Care Guide: Light, Water & Tips”

Dear Nature Whisper friend, thank you for welcoming this resilient beauty into your home. May its glossy, towering presence ground your spirit, foster stability, and draw nourishing, balancing energy.

Basic Information

Rubber Tree (Ficus elastica) is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its large, glossy leaves range from deep green to burgundy, forming a dramatic canopy. It thrives at 60–75 °F (16–24 °C) with moderate humidity in a well-draining, peat-rich mix.

Energy Profile & Placement

As an Earth energy plant, Rubber Tree embodies strength, resilience, and nourishment—echoing the Chinese Earth element’s role in grounding and stability. In Feng Shui, Earth energy resides in the Southwest and Center of the home, areas tied to relationships and overall well-being. Place your Rubber Tree in one of these sectors to enhance family harmony and inner balance. Its upright growth also aligns with the Root Chakra, anchoring you to the present and fostering a sense of security.

Care Guidelines

Light & Temperature: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which can scorch leaves. Keep indoors at 60–75 °F (16–24 °C); only move outdoors in filtered shade if you’re in USDA zones 10–11. Keep away from cold or hot air blasts.

Watering: When the top 1–2″ of soil feels dry (≈ weekly), water thoroughly so the mix is evenly moist. If a fabric outer pot is in place, lift it after watering to drain excess and prevent root rot.

Fertilizing: Every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer, apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10 NPK) at half strength; pause in fall and winter.

Repotting: Every two years (spring), refresh soil and move to a slightly larger pot using a well-draining mix.

Maintenance: Wipe leaves monthly to remove dust, mist to maintain ≥ 50% humidity, and trim any brown edges to keep foliage vibrant.
